BIEN <\/strong>is the textile art biennial<\/strong> that enlivens various locations across Slovenia<\/strong>, offering an international overview of contemporary textile art. The project comprises a widespread exhibition and a comprehensive program of community activities and knowledge exchange, highlighting the transformative potential of textile practices for individual well-being and social impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2025 edition, taking place from May 31 to August 14<\/strong>, is dedicated to the central theme of “air”<\/strong> and will involve the cities of Kranj, \u0160kofja Loka, Idrija, Nova Gorica, Gorizia, Tr\u017ei\u010d, and Jesenice<\/strong>. Recognized as Slovenia’s foremost event dedicated to contemporary textile creativity, BIEN 2025 is part of the official program of GO! 2025 \u2013 European Capital of Culture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across more than 25 venues dedicated to contemporary textile art, BIEN 2025 will host 80 collectives, artists, artisans, and researchers from Slovenia and abroad, along with over 200 students of textile art and design. The main venue is the Layer House in Kranj, complemented by a network of exhibition spaces including Palazzo Lantieri in Gorizia, the Ravnikar Rotunda at the Nova Gorica Theatre, the Jesenice Market, the renovated mercury mining and smelting facilities in Idrija, the chapel of \u0160kofja Loka Castle, and the Crobath Family House, serving as a welcoming point at the entrance to Kranj’s historic center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The artistic program is curated by Lovro Ivan\u010di\u0107.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the invited artists are Eta Sadar Breznik<\/strong>, a Slovenian artist and recipient of the Pre\u0161eren Fund Award; John K. Raustein<\/strong>, who creates monumental textile installations imbued with the power of color; Marielle MacLeman<\/strong>, who transforms discarded and compressed fabrics into extraordinary textile and visual installations; Jakup Ferri<\/strong>, who represented the Kosovo Pavilion at the 2022 Venice Biennale with playful textile drawings; Ellen Dynebrink<\/strong>, who integrates digital distortions into her patchworks; and Signe Emdal<\/strong>, who conveys the instinct of self-preservation through her soft sculptures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four artists from \u0160kofja Loka, the collective Kreativnice<\/strong> \u2013 Nina Vastl \u0160tefe, Lili Panjtar, Anja Musek, and Silva Horvat \u2013 are preparing an installation for the mining facilities in Idrija. Also in Idrija, the Dutch collective IPIHAN<\/strong> will present site-specific exhibitions in abandoned buildings, drawing on the history and context of the chosen spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, children from kindergartens and elderly residents from care homes in \u0160kofja Loka, Jesenice, and Kranj will also participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
